The Senior Divisional Officer for Mezam, Simon Emile Mooh has banned sporting activities in his area of command. He was speaking to the press shortly after presiding the Mid-year evaluation session of the Bamenda II council Wednesday July 22, 2020.
"I came here today to sensitize the population of this municipality about the number of infected persons in Mezam which are in the rise" Mooh hinted
He said the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic has drastically drop as many have turned down barrier measures put in place by Government and the World Health Organization
"people no longer wear face masks, they don't wash their hands and the respect for social distancing is a major problem. To this effect, in a prefectural order signed from today, all forms of collective sporting activities in Mezam division are forbidden and banned till further notice. Those who will be caught will be sanctioned according to the laws put in place by the penal code for propagating willingly and deliberately the virus" the SDO cautioned
The SDO's decision comes a day after the Governor of the North West warned defaulters of Covid-19 in the region that they will face the law
The North West Region currently counts 646 confirmed cases of the virus. Mezam Division has 474 cases as recently made public by the Regional Delegation of Public Health
The ban on sporting activities will be a big blow to sports lovers of the Region, some already engaged in interquarter football competitions
The ban also raises questions as to how many people are in a football field as compared to those traveling in buses, others in crowded markets and churches across the Division

ReplyDeleteIts regrettable these administrators are blind. They do not see the crowded bars, night clubs and other entertainment places. Needless to mention our streets. Has the SDO ever gone to the Bamenda main market, Nkwen market, Ntarikon etc? Let's be serious.
