Minister Paul Atanga Nji visits crash scene at Ndikinimiki, consoles bereaved families and survivors at Bafia District Hospital
Cameroon’s Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji, has visited the scene of a deadly road accident at Ndikinimiki in the Centre Region that claimed 16 lives, including seven members of the same family.
The accident occurred along the Yaoundé-Bafoussam highway on Saturday, August 15, 2026, leaving several other passengers injured and requiring urgent medical attention.
Minister Paul Atanga Nji arrived at the accident scene on Saturday to assess the situation and extend the condolences of President Paul Biya and the First Lady, Chantal Biya, to the families of the victims.
The minister was accompanied by administrative, security and local elected officials during the visit.
From the crash scene, Atanga Nji proceeded to the Bafia District Hospital, where survivors were being treated. He met with medical personnel and received an update on the condition of those admitted following the accident.
Dr Georges Soule, Director of the Bafia District Hospital, said the facility received 68 people in connection with the accident. Of this number, 16 were already dead when brought to the hospital, while the remaining victims were placed under medical care.
The minister commended the hospital staff for their response and efforts to provide care to the survivors.
The loss of seven members of one family has added a particularly painful dimension to the tragedy, as relatives and communities mourn the victims of the crash.
Ndikinimiki and other sections of the Yaoundé-Bafoussam road have previously been identified as accident-prone areas. Research on road safety in Cameroon has also identified Ndikinimiki as a road accident black spot along the National Road No. 4, highlighting the persistent risks faced by motorists using the corridor.
The latest tragedy has once again raised concerns about road safety and the need for stronger measures to prevent fatal crashes on major highways.
Minister Paul Atanga Nji's visit was therefore both an assessment of the disaster and a gesture of government solidarity with the affected families, while the injured continue to receive treatment at the Bafia District Hospital.
