NW CPDM Seeks to Maintain Hegemony

The Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, CPDM, in the North West Region is stepping up preparations ahead of the upcoming municipal and parliamentary elections, with the party seeking to consolidate its structures and maintain its political dominance in the region.

The move follows directives from the party hierarchy aimed at strengthening political structures and intensifying grassroots mobilisation in preparation for the elections.

In a circular addressed to Permanent Divisional Heads of the CPDM, the Permanent Regional Head for the North West Region, Philemon Yang, has convened a Regional CPDM Party Seminar scheduled for Friday, August 21, 2026, at the Bamenda Congress Hall.

The seminar is expected to bring together senior party officials and key stakeholders, including CPDM, WCPDM and YCPDM leaders, Members of Parliament, mayors and their deputies, members of the Regional Assembly and other party elites.

According to the circular, the meeting is aimed at disseminating resolutions and recommendations adopted at the national level, assessing political realities across the various divisions and strengthening the operational readiness of party structures.

The gathering will also provide an opportunity for party officials to finalise local strategies for voter mobilisation and the implementation of future campaign activities.

The regional seminar is expected to be followed by divisional party seminars across the North West Region on Saturday, August 22, 2026. These meetings will serve as platforms for taking the resolutions of the regional gathering closer to party structures at the grassroots.

The renewed mobilisation comes at a crucial political period, as parties across Cameroon intensify activities ahead of the 2027 municipal and parliamentary elections. With the voter registration process also approaching its August 31 deadline, political parties are increasingly turning to grassroots mobilisation to strengthen their electoral bases.

For the CPDM in the North West, the exercise is aimed at ensuring that the party remains politically organised and ready to defend and possibly expand its influence in the region. The CPDM currently counts 33 of the 34 Municipal Councils and 18 of the 20 parliamentary seats.

The party leadership has called on its officials and militants to work together to strengthen party structures and secure what the circular describes as a “resounding victory” for the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement in the North West Region.
