Rev Acha Gerald hands over a certificate of recognition to the congregational chair, Elder Muma Jude
The Presbyterian Church in Cameroon, Nitob Congregation, celebrated 20 years of existence on June 7, 2026, marking two decades since its creation in 2006. Born out of PC Azire, the church has traveled a significant milestone, and the Christian community, along with the church hierarchy, deemed it worthy of celebration.
The celebration was a moment of thanksgiving to God for His grace and the selfless sacrifices made by Christians and pastors since the church's inception. The church structure, which began as a humble prayer cell, has evolved into a magnificent and modern structure capable of accommodating the growing Christian population. The church premises now boast a Sunday school section, a hall, a pastor's house, and the main church structure.
During the sermon, Rev. Acha Gerald, the Presbytery Secretary for Mezam South Presbytery, called on Christians to reflect on Matthew 7:24-27, where Jesus speaks of the wise builder who builds on rock (good foundation) and the foolish one who builds on sand (weak foundation). He emphasized that the church's progress is attributed not only to physical growth but also to the spiritual foundation laid by the Christians.
Rev. Acha Gerald also drew parallels with 1 Samuel 7:12, where Samuel sets up a stone, Ebenezer, as a reminder of God's help in tough times. The PC Nitob Congregation Chairman, Muma Jude Awa, delivered a detailed and eloquent speech, recounting the church's journey from conception in 2005 to its actualization in 2006. He acknowledged the contributions of fallen pioneer Christians and pastors who worked tirelessly to realize the dream of creating a new parish.
Muma Jude highlighted several projects realized within the 20 years but also mentioned pending projects, including the construction of a fence and paving of the yard, which require the congregation's collective efforts to come to fruition. The celebration included a fundraising launch, which began with the cutting of the anniversary cake.
The 20th Anniversary celebration also recognized Christians who have worked tirelessly to contribute to the church's growth, with certificates of recognition presented to deserving individuals.
Sirri Precious Joy is a Christian of PC Nitob expresses her joy in being part of the 20th Anniversary celebration " it is not an easy task to be part of this 20years celebration as some people who even started this since the creation of this church are not alive today to testify this great milestone we are celebrating today so I am really privileged of God's blessing on my life and everybody who is here to celebrate with us not living you out the journalists who have come here today" Sirri Precious told the press.
Akwi Valene, says " I was not born when this church started but I was born out of this church and I am grateful to God that today I can testify to some of the achievements and progress the church have record as I was growing up. When I was still small the church building was not like this but today we are privileged to worshiping God in a very beautiful structure.
The chairman of the PC Nitob Congregation, Muma Jude Awa, expressed some difficulties the church have experienced due to the ongoing crisis in the North West Region with its impact on the church. " The crisis have caused mass movements and relocation of people and our Christians happened to be part of those that have moved to safer zones. The attendence during church service greatly dropped and it had its on consequences on the church. We have lost Christians to death but we want to thank God that today with the faith of the Christians we are able to come together today to celebrate not only the achievements of the church but also the lives of our Christians" Muma Jude told the Observer.
The president of the PC Nitob Christian Women Fellowship(CWF), Madam Forbang Jacqueline, also a pioneer of the PC Nitob Congregation, thinks the celebration is important to thank God for life " I was have been a part of this journey right up till now and I think that today is a day that we really needed to celebrate and thank God for our lives especially with this crisis that has been ongoing for the past ten years and people have been dying. So I use this celebration to really thank God for preserving us from harm right up till this moment" PC Nitob CWF president Forbang Jacqueline said.
The 20th Anniversary celebration of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon, Nitob Congregation, was a very important reminder of God's faithfulness. Despite facing challenges, including the impact of the crisis, the church has emerged stronger, with a beautiful structure- a testament to the unwavering dedication of its Christians .
As Muma Jude Awa rightly put it, the church's progress is a result of the collective efforts of its members, and there's still work to be done. With pending projects like the fence and yard paving, the congregation is gearing up for the next phase of growth.
The celebration served as a moment of reflection, gratitude, and rededication. As Rev. Acha Gerald reminded the congregation, building on a solid foundation is key, and the Ebenezer stone stands as a testament to God's help in tough times.
The joy and gratitude expressed by Christians like Forbang Jacqueline, Sirri Precious Joy and Akwi Valene were palpable, and their stories a testament to the church's impact on lives. As PC Nitob looks to the future, it's clear that the church will continue to be a beacon of hope, guided by its strong foundation and commitment to serving God and the community .
