Hon Agho Oliver Bamenju

The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Bafut/Tubah Constituency, Hon. Agho Oliver Bamenju, has donated a new multi-function machine (printer, scanner, and photocopier) to the Basic Education Inspectorate in Bafut. The donation is intended to improve office work, make document processing easier, and support the smooth functioning of education services in the subdivision.

The equipment was officially handed over on Saturday, June 6, 2026, in Bamenda by Brenda Ichu, who represented the MP during the ceremony.

While presenting the machine, Brenda Ichu explained that the donation would help staff print, scan, and photocopy documents directly in their office instead of travelling elsewhere for such services. According to her, this will save time, reduce stress, and improve efficiency in the management of educational records and administrative documents.

She stated that the MP made the donation to support the government education structure and ensure that officials can perform their duties more effectively. The machine is expected to simplify office operations and improve service delivery within the inspectorate.

The donation was warmly welcomed by education officials, who described the absence of a photocopy machine as one of the major challenges affecting their work.

Speaking during the event, the Inspector of Basic Education for Bafut, Chikelem Boniface, expressed gratitude to the MP for responding positively to their request. He explained that the inspectorate had been struggling for a long time because important documents could not be photocopied promptly, causing delays in administrative work

He noted that the donation came at a very important time, as education stakeholders were meeting to review activities carried out during the current academic year and make preparations for the next school year. He thanked Hon. Agho Oliver Bamenju for what he described as a timely intervention that has provided a practical solution to one of their pressing needs.

Beyond receiving the equipment, Chikelem Boniface highlighted several other challenges facing education in Bafut. These include difficulties related to examination centres, shortages of teaching staff, and the effects of insecurity on the operation of some government schools in the area.

According to him, insecurity has forced some teachers to request transfers to other locations, while others have had to teach in temporary or alternative learning spaces. Despite these challenges, he encouraged teachers to remain committed and flexible as education authorities continue working to ensure that learning is not disrupted.

He further explained that plans are underway to redeploy teachers to schools that are currently operational so they can support colleagues who are already handling heavy workloads.

The President of Headteachers in the Bafut Subdivision, Ndonwi Bridget, also expressed appreciation for the donation. She described it as a long-awaited gift that will greatly support schools and education personnel throughout the subdivision.

She explained that school administrators regularly handle a large number of official documents, including attendance registers, beginning-of-year reports, service documents, and assumption-of-duty forms. The new machine will make it easier to reproduce these documents and improve record keeping.

Ndonwi Bridget added that many headteachers often spend their personal money on photocopying and other administrative tasks. She believes the new equipment will significantly reduce these costs and make documentation services more accessible for schools.

She also acknowledged the transportation difficulties and traffic challenges faced by teachers travelling to and from their schools. However, she commended teachers for their dedication and continued efforts to ensure that teaching and learning take place despite the difficult conditions.

The donation demonstrates the MP's commitment to supporting education in the Bafut/Tubah Constituency and addressing some of the practical challenges faced by education administrators and teachers. Education stakeholders believe the new equipment will improve administrative efficiency, reduce operational costs, and contribute to better service delivery within the Basic Education Inspectorate in Bafut.
