PPRD Donates 25 Tricycles to Improve Hygiene in Bamenda

The City Mayor of the Bamenda City Council, Achobong Tambeng Paul, has received 25 tricycles from the Presidential Plan for the Reconstruction and Development pf the North West and South West Regions (PPRD) aimed at improving the sanitation situation in Bamenda.


According to the Regional Delegate of the Economy for the North West, the donation follows concerns by the Head of State over improving the sanitation situation in the city. The tricycles are expected to strengthen waste management by enabling door-to-door garbage collection and disposal at designated collection points.

Receiving the equipment, the City Mayor expressed profound gratitude to the Head of State for what he described as a timely intervention. He said the tricycles symbolize hope and a new beginning for the city, assuring that they will be put into effective use to ensure cleaner streets. He added that the initiative would help eliminate the presence of garbage in public spaces.


The City Mayor used the reception of the tricycles to call on the population to embrace peace, unity, and development, urging them to move away from practices such as ghost towns and kidnapping. 

"The old has gone and behold the new is here. All the things we used to do in the past like ghost towns. Kidnapping for ransom, broken roads, battered taps are a thing of the past. Let us open our hearts to receive a new Bamenda, one which is build on love and solidarity." Citt Mayor Paul Achobong said.

He stressed the need for the population to focus on rebuilding the city, noting that despite challenges such as damaged roads, schools, and water systems, new opportunities are emerging.

Speaking as he presided the handing over, the Governor of the North-West Region, Lele Lafrique Tchoffo Deben Adolphe said the donation will significantly improve the hygiene and sanitation in Bamenda. He commended the Head of State for the development plan, adding that ongoing road construction have improved the peace drive in the region.

The Governor urged the city council to make immediate and proper use of the tricycles, stating that they should be operational as early as the next day. He also called on all and sundry to clean their surroundings, remove abandoned vehicles, and maintain order, especially along major routes as Pope Leo XIV visits Bamenda of Thursday 16th April 2026.


North West Regional Delegate of The Economy 


The handing over of the tricycles was done by the Regional Delegate of the Economoy, planning and Regional Development,  Buinda Godlove Nsakabo and adds to previous donations carried out by the PPRD like the construction of roads, bridges, schools and startups to agric farmers who lost businesses because of the crisis.

The donation of tricycles comes to ease the work currently being done by the Empire Group in the cleaning of the city of Bamenda. 

The donation exercise took place on Tuesday 14th April 2026 at the Bamenda ceremonial grandstand.
