Senator Enwe Comforts Kenyan Athletes After Mount Cameroon Race Tragedy

Senator Enwe Francis of the North West constituency at the Senate has  exhibited a profound act of empathy and solidarity by visiting the Kenyan athletes who participated in the recent Mount Cameroon Race of Hope. 

The race, which unfolded on the 24th of February 2024 in Buea, the regional headquarters of the South West Region of Cameroon, witnessed an unfortunate incident where one athlete collapsed and tragically lost his life.

Senator Enwe Francis emphasized the significance of his visit, citing the importance of offering comfort and encouragement to the athletes amidst the somber aftermath of the race.

Expressing his heartfelt condolences to the affected athletes and their families, Senator Enwe's gesture underscored the spirit of camaraderie and support transcending borders and cultures.

Among the athletes visited was Eileen Chepkoech, a young Kenyan athlete who displayed remarkable resilience by clinching the 3rd position in the female junior category of the Race of Hope. Senator Enwe extended his congratulations to Chepkoech, acknowledging her outstanding performance amidst the challenges of the grueling race.

William Ruto Cheboi, another Kenyan athlete who participated in the race, though not among the top winners, expressed his appreciation for the senator's visit, highlighting the significance of the gesture in fostering international goodwill and sportsmanship.

During his visit, Senator Enwe Francis also engaged with key figures involved in the organization and coverage of the Mountain Cameroon Race of Hope. Among them was Njeck Walters Tekom, the national trainer overseeing competition logistics, and Bencollins Nyuyberiwo, the lead reporter with the Cameroon Radio and Television (CRTV).

The meeting, held in the Melen neighborhood in Yaoundé, served as an opportunity to reflect on the race and explore avenues for further collaboration in promoting sportsmanship and fostering cross-cultural understanding.
