The staff also congratulated the Mayor for an exceptional rate of execution of public investment projects which has been heralded by FEICOM and the Ministry of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development.

Despite these beautiful moments shared with the council executive, the staff complained of irregular payment of salaries and lack of a favourable working conditions as they work in tight offices, operating away from home.

In his response, the Mayor appreciated the staff though they took him unaware.

"It took me unaware. It is the greatest shock and surprise for 2024.

"Surprise because when I look at the challenging working environment of the staff, they went for six months without salaries and have paid just two months. And for them to go into their salaries to buy me a gift, it is really something to appreciate.

"This is a laudable initiative. I appreciate them so much." Mayor Ngwakongoh Lawrence highlighted.

The Mayor also encouraged the staff to operate a thrift (Njangi) scheme as a way to grow together and assist themselves. He also called on the staff to start preparing a better New Year wishes next year not just for him but the entire council executive.

The staff handed to the Mayor, a carved chair, calling on him to sit comfortably and administer the Municipality of Bafut. A message which Ngwakongoh Lawrence said he "will keep on committing myself to them as we work together for the growth of the Municipality."

The surprise ceremony to give new year wishes to the Mayor is the first of its kind in the Municipality since he took over in 2020.
