National Youth Council: Mekom Samuel Elected NW President, Vows to bring change


Mekom Samuel, President of the North West Regional Youth Council casting his vote


26 year old Mekom Samuel Taleh has been elected to head the National Youth Council in the North West for the next three years.

He scored 39 of the 42 valid votes cast as he stood unopposed for the position.

Speaking shortly before he was elected, Mekom promised to bring his entrepreneurial ideas to the council that has almost be unknown in the region.

"We can be able to create between 300 to 1000 jobs every year if we work hand-in-hand with the competent services of the state. We need to get more youths employed or source for grants to them to ensure that they're comfortable.

"Youths are excelling in agriculture, livestock and even in tech. We will galvanize all of these talents and harness those of others so they can become job creators tomorrow." Sam told the Observer.

42 of the 43 Delegates Present

Elected to the Bamenda I council board in 2020, the City Councillor of the Bamenda City Council and active entrepreneur, teacher and pastor has promised an exemplary leadership in the discharge of his duties and called on the youth to rally behind him for a better North West.

A North West he says can do better if there is peace, unity and regional communion amongst youths. He used his election to call for the youth not to be divisive and work for Nation building.

Mekom Samuel stood unopposed after the candidacy of Tumenta Peter was rejected for non-conformity with the electoral code.

On his list, several other persons were disqualified for not following the laid down regulations.

To represent the region as Delegates to the National office, Delphine Asanga from Menchum and Melvin Songwe from Boyo were elected 

They both registered 5 votes and 31 Votes respectively.

Mekom Samuel takes over from Nchia Bertrand who has been at the helm of the structure for the last 4 years.
