Bafut Mayor promises scholarships as FSLC Begins

The Mayor of the Municipality of Bafut have promised to hand a total of 10 scholarships to the best students at the 2021 First school leaving certificate examination (FSLC).

He made the announcement at the start of the 2021 session of the exams where some 300 pupils from Bafut are sitting in the exams in Bamenda.

Impressed by the number, Ngwakongoh Lawrence decided to double the scholarship from five in 2020 to 10 in 2021.

While encouraging the pupils to face the exams head-on, the Mayor reminded them to respect barrier measures against COVID-19 with the respect of social distancing, regular hand washing and wearing of face masks.

This word of cautioned came with the handing of writing materials to the pupils.

Mayor Ngwakongoh Lawrence also saluted the parents who turned out to accompany the kids sit the exams. He reminded them education is a fundamental human right and the children must go to school to become better persons in future. One of the parents saluted the Mayor for his act of generosity

"we thank God and we thank you for today. We wish to thank the state that despite all odds, they ensured that these children can go to school"


Bafut subdivision has been one of the hardest hit in the ongoing socio-political crisis in the North West and South West regions.

In 2020, just 60 students sat the exams. An appreciable 300 are sitting the exams this year.
