Back to School: North West Governor visit Schools, Enforces Covid-19 barrier measures

The Governor of the North West region, Adolphe Lele LAfrique has visited some primary and secondary schools within Bamenda to evaluate the effectiveness of classes on day two of the 2020/2021 academic year. The governor also used his visit to the various schools to enforce the covid-19 barrier measures.

At GBHS Bamendakwe just as at Ecoles Publiques Les Champions, GPS Complex Nkwen, GBTHS Bamenda, CS Big Mankon and PCHS Mankon, the governor encouraged the students and teachers for braving the odds to be in school and emphasized on the need for them to always respect the covid-19 barrier measures as he distributed facemasks to the students and pupils.

"Always ensure that you properly wear your facemask and wash your hands always with running water and soap", Governor Adolphe Lele LAfrique told the students and pupils.

The regional delegate of Public Health at each stop, enlightened the students on how to to properly wear their masks while sensitizing them about the pandemic.

At the end of the visit, Governor Adolphe Lele LAfrique observed that, classes have effectively resumed in the North West region since October 5, 2020.

"From my accessment at the regional level and after my tour, I will like to observe that, classes have effectively resumed in the North West region since yesterday. This is thanks to the mobilisation of the school children, the parents, the teachers and the security measures taken to accompany the resumption of classes in the region", the Governor said.

In GBHS Bamendakwe, a total of 761 students were present in school as at 8:00am, 370 at Ecoles Publiques Les Champions and 244 at CS Big Mankon.

Governor Adolphe Lele LAfrique also noted with satisfaction the respect of the barrier measures put in place by the World Health Organisation and the government of Cameroon, as he announced the availability of facemasks to be given to school authorities before the end of the week.

The governor was accompanied by the regional delegates of basic and secondary education and other administrative officials of the region.
