North West Governor Backs operation "Bamenda Clean," prescribes Civil-Military Collaboration


Opening of the security and coordination meeting in Bamenda


The Governor of the North West Region Adolphe Lele LAfrique has called on the population of Bamenda to fully comply with administrative authorities and those of the defense and security forces as operation "Bamenda Clean" enters day four

The Governor was speaking in Bamenda Thursday, September 10th 2020 as he chaired the Administrative and security coordination meeting

"We call on the local population to take sides with the authorities by providing necessary information to dismantle terrorist activities from communities. I want to express thanks to the defense forces carrying out the Bamenda clean exercise, giving hope to the population" the Governor noted

In his welcome remarks, the City Mayor, Paul Achobong re-emphasised  the need to get bikes out of the city centre, citing numerous instances that bikes have been used to steal, kidnap, kill and harass the local population

"We cannot accept that 10,000 people will cause havoc on 500,000 people. This sector must be checked" he highlighted

Administrative and security officers

The meeting also focused on the preparations for back to school on October 5, 2020. The Governor instructed stakeholders to take necessary actions to ensure a hitch free start of the new school year

The administrative and security coordination meeting comes few days after the convening of the December 6, 2020 Regional Elections. 

Lele LAfrique requested that traditional rulers should take an active part in the process

"To all traditional rulers, I will want to reiterate here the instructions of the Minister of Territorial Administration who has asked them to be available in their respective traditional units where the population is impatiently waiting"

Calls for ghost towns, lockdowns, resistance by separatist fighters still continue in some parts of the North West Region
