The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon have made a winning start to their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign, defeating Comoros 3–1 at the Roumde Adjia Stadium in Garoua on Thursday.
Cameroon took the lead through David Nyengue in the 39th minute, giving the hosts a 1–0 advantage going into the break.
The Lions doubled their advantage shortly after the restart when Bryan Mbeumo found the net in the 48th minute. Comoros responded three minutes later through Warmed Omari, reducing the deficit to 2–1 and briefly putting the visitors back into the contest.
The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, however, restored their two-goal cushion in the 81st minute, with Danny Namaso scoring the third goal to seal a 3–1 victory for the hosts.
The victory gives Cameroon three points from their opening fixture as the race for places at the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations PAMOJA 2027 gets underway. CAF confirms that the 2027 finals will be hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
Cameroon entered the encounter with head coach David Pagou, who had urged his players not to underestimate Comoros and to remain focused despite the changes to the squad.
The result represents a positive opening for the Indomitable Lions, who will now turn their attention to their next qualifying assignment against Congo on September 29.
