The accident scene at Veterinary Junction
A family outing turned into a tragedy on Saturday evening when a road accident at Veterinary Junction Bamenda claimed the life of a young woman and left three other family members injured.
The accident happened at about 5:30 p.m, Saturday 15th August 2026 when four members of the Fru's family from Akum-Santa were travelling on the same motorbike.
According to eyewitnesses, Chi Fany was riding with his relatives, Fru Manda Faith, Fru Azeh Demetrius and Sandrine Nadege, when another motorbike reportedly overtook them and crossed their path.
Chi Fany is said to have braked suddenly to avoid the other bike. The motorbike fell and the four passengers were thrown onto the road, directly in front of a heavy-duty truck travelling behind them.
Witnesses said the truck driver attempted to reverse while Faith was still lying on the ground. The truck's tyre reportedly ran over her head, killing her instantly.
The accident shocked traders, motorbike riders and other road users around the roundabout. Some people reportedly rushed to help while others called for assistance.
The Army Rescue Unit, led by Senior Warrant Officer Taku Paul, arrived at the scene and helped control the crowd before removing Faith's body from the road.
The other three family members Chi Fany, Demetrius and Sandrine survived the accident. Their exact medical condition and the health facility where they were receiving treatment had not been confirmed at the time of reporting.
Family members and from Bamenda and Akum quickly arrived at the scene after news of the accident spread. Many were seen crying and mourning the loss.
In a heartbreaking moment, Chi Fany reportedly cried out, “Which other daughter am I going to give her father?” as people around him tried to calm him.
The accident has once again raised concerns about road safety measures in Bamenda especially as the roads are under construction.
