The CPDM Mezam IV Section has stepped up preparations for the 2026/2027 municipal and legislative elections, with party officials calling for greater mobilisation, internal cohesion and grassroots engagement to secure what they described as a landslide victory in Bafut.
The call was made during a political seminar organised by the CPDM Mezam IV Bafut Sub-Section at the Bafut Council Hall in Nsoh, on Sunday August 23, 2026. The seminar brought together party officials and militants to examine the challenges ahead of the elections and discuss strategies for strengthening the party's position at the grassroots.
The main objective of the seminar was to prepare the party for a successful electoral outing, with emphasis placed on mobilisation, security, internal reconciliation and the need for party members to work together ahead of the polls.
One of the key presentations, “The Imperative of CPDM Landslide Victory in Bafut,” was delivered by Honourable Gordon Anyele, Divisional Representative at the North West Regional Assembly.
Party officials and traditional rulers singing the Cameroon AnthemHonourable Anyele stressed the importance of a strong electoral performance for the party, while encouraging militants to remain committed to their political organisation and to intensify their presence within communities.
The security situation and its implications for the electoral process also featured prominently during the seminar. The WCPDM Section President, Chesi Miriam examined security challenges and the electoral environment, highlighting the need for party members to remain conscious of the realities on the ground and to promote peaceful political participation.
Another major focus was internal appeasement and reconciliation, presented by Honourable Suhndale Marcelline, Divisional Representative at the North West Regional Assembly.
The presentation underscored the importance of unity within the party, particularly as it approaches a major electoral contest. Participants were encouraged to resolve internal differences, strengthen collaboration and place the interests of the party and the population above individual disagreements.
The seminar was chaired by the CPDM Mezam IV Section President, Ngwakongoh Lawrence, who said the party's approach to the upcoming elections would require continuous engagement with the population.
According to him, the party intends to strengthen its grassroots structures and listen more closely to the concerns of citizens, particularly young people and women.
He identified employment, entrepreneurship, education, skills development, access to finance, healthcare, roads, water, electricity, agriculture, security and local economic opportunities among issues that require sustained attention.
“Political parties must never take the population for granted,” Lawrence said, stressing that electoral success cannot be achieved through campaign-period mobilisation alone.
He noted that lessons from previous elections had shown the importance of maintaining regular contact with the population and ensuring that party representatives remain accountable after elections.
The Section President also said the party would work to improve coordination between its different structures, strengthen communication between grassroots militants and leadership, and promote responsible participation ahead of the polls.
As the 2026/2027 municipal and legislative elections approach, the Bafut seminar has provided the CPDM Mezam IV with an opportunity to assess its preparedness while rallying its members around the objective of securing victory at the polls.
For the party leadership, however, the road to victory will depend not only on mobilisation but also on its ability to maintain internal unity, engage the electorate and respond to the concerns of the people of Bafut.
