The bodies of two children who were swept away by floods in Bamenda have been found.
The children are Azah Marie Clofas, 5 years old, and Tse Emmanuel, 7 years old.
They were carried away by strong floodwater around 5pm on Sunday, August 2, 2026. It happened near their home at Ben and Bros street, Ntarinkon, in Bamenda II subdivision, after heavy rain.
Reports say the girl was swept away first when she tried to pick up her slippers from the floodwater. The boy was also swept away when he tried to help his sister.
The Army Rescue Team, led by Senior Warrant Officer Taku Paul, started searching again at 6am on Monday, August 3, 2026.
Tse Emmanuel’s body was found at about 7:10am. Azah Marie’s body was found at about 7:50am. Both bodies were found in a swampy area at Below Ngomgham, near Street Four in Mulang.
The bodies were wrapped in a white bag and taken to the Regional Hospital Mortuary. After a post-mortem, they were given to the families. Later, they were buried at Alakuma Quarter in Mankon.
Both children were pupils at Ambam Quality Nursery and Primary School, Che Street, Ntarinkon. They had just moved to Class Two and Class Four respectively for the 2026/2027 school year.
Rescue teams and the population searched all evening on Sunday, but they could not find the children because it was dark and the runoff were too strong.
