The Presidency of the Republic has dismissed reports claiming that President Paul Biya has been admitted to a hospital in Switzerland, insisting that the Head of State remains in good health.
Speaking to Jeune Afrique, the Director of the Civil Cabinet at the Presidency, Samuel Mvondo Ayolo, refuted media reports alleging that the 93-year-old president was receiving treatment at a private clinic in Geneva.
According to Ayolo, President Biya is "doing well" and has not been hospitalised during his stay in Switzerland.
The clarification follows media reports suggesting that the President had been admitted to a hospital while abroad, claims that have since generated widespread discussion.
Ayolo's remarks are in line with previous statements from government officials, who have consistently dismissed speculation about the President's health and maintained that he continues to carry out his responsibilities while outside the country.
In the interview, the Director of the Civil Cabinet also spoke about the political atmosphere surrounding the presidency, saying there were individuals within the President's political circle who were already anticipating his departure from office.
"Some people within the inner circle are waiting for his departure, but they may leave before he does," Ayolo was quoted as saying.
The Presidency has not provided further details on the President's stay in Switzerland or announced when he is expected to return to Cameroon.
The latest statement comes amid continued public interest in President Biya's prolonged stay abroad and renewed debate over his health and leadership.
