The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has set October 8, 2026, as the date to hear the appeal over the disputed outcome of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final between Senegal and Morocco.
According to CAS, the hearing will be held behind closed doors after both the Senegalese and Moroccan football federations agreed that the proceedings should remain confidential.
The legal battle follows a decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to overturn Senegal's victory in the 2025 AFCON final and award the title to Morocco based on its disciplinary regulations.
Senegal has challenged the decision, arguing that CAF misapplied its rules and is seeking to have the original result reinstated.
During the October hearing, both sides will present their arguments before a panel of CAS arbitrators, who will examine the evidence and the applicable regulations before reaching a decision.
However, CAS has clarified that no ruling will be delivered immediately after the hearing. The arbitration panel will deliberate before issuing its final verdict at a later date.
The decision could either uphold CAF's ruling, confirming Morocco as the 2025 African champions, or overturn it and restore Senegal's title.
With the case attracting widespread attention across the continent, football fans and stakeholders will have to wait until CAS delivers its final judgment to know who will officially be recognised as the winners of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
