Belo Council is set to roll out new infrastructure projects after securing funding from the Local Governance and Resilient Communities Project the (PROLOG).
The Council signed a financing agreement recently after meeting all the Minimum Mandatory Conditions of the Local Governance Performance Assessment. With this, Belo has become one of the first 48 councils in the country to qualify as a beneficiary.
Under the PROLOG programme, Belo will construct a reinforced concrete box culvert on the Tinikum–Soalam road in Tinikum Village. The project is expected to ensure year-round road access and make it easier to move people and agricultural produce.
In Mejung Village, the Council will build a borehole with a 9-metre elevated water tower and two storage tanks. This is aimed at providing safe drinking water for the population.
Acha Village will also get a reinforced concrete box culvert to improve road access, drainage, and mobility during the rainy season.
In Njonghitin Village, a new bridge will be constructed at Echuambvek. The bridge will restore permanent connectivity and improve access to schools, health centres, and markets.
Finally, IGIAM Village will benefit from a potable water supply network. The network will expand access to clean water, improve sanitation, and boost public health.
The Mayor of Belo, Mbuh Alice Ayong said the projects reflect Belo’s commitment to improving infrastructure and public service delivery. She added that the population should expect better road connectivity, increased access to safe drinking water, stronger local economic activity, and an improved quality of life across the municipality.
PROLOG is a 300 million dollars initiative backed by the World Bank and the Government of Cameroon. It aims to strengthen local governance, boost community inclusion, and build climate-resilient infrastructure.
