The Cameroon People's Democratic Movement (CPDM) has begun preparations for the forthcoming municipal and parliamentary elections with the adoption of a six-month roadmap aimed at strengthening the party's structures and mobilising supporters across the country.
The roadmap was unveiled on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, during a high-level meeting of the party's Central Committee held at the Yaounde Conference Centre. The meeting was chaired by the Secretary General of the CPDM Central Committee, Jean Nkuete, and brought together members of the Central Committee, Regional Permanent Delegates, Divisional Permanent Delegates and senior party officials from across the country.
Addressing participants, Jean Nkuete said the meeting was convened to prepare the ruling party for the forthcoming municipal and parliamentary elections through better coordination, organisation and mobilisation of its grassroots structures. He called on party officials to remain united, disciplined and committed to implementing the resolutions adopted during the meeting.
The Secretary General urged party leaders at all levels to intensify political mobilisation, strengthen communication with militants and supporters, and ensure that local party structures remain active ahead of the elections. He stressed that the success of the CPDM in the polls would depend on effective grassroots organisation and close collaboration between party officials and militants.
The meeting also reviewed the country's political environment and discussed strategies for reinforcing the party's presence in councils and Parliament. Participants examined ways of improving coordination among the party's regional and divisional structures while ensuring the effective implementation of the six-month electoral roadmap.
The CPDM, which has been Cameroon’s ruling party since 1985, currently holds a majority in both Parliament and local councils. With the municipal and parliamentary elections drawing closer, the party says it is focused on consolidating its support base and maintaining its electoral dominance across the country.
The July 22 meeting marks the beginning of a series of activities expected to be rolled out nationwide as the party steps up preparations for the upcoming polls.
