The Government Emergency Humanitarian Assistance Plan (EHAP) Coordination Centre in Bamenda has launched the distribution of food and non-food items to internally displaced persons (IDPs) and vulnerable households in the North West Region.

The exercise, which began on Monday, 29 December 2025, is part of the ongoing government efforts to assist communities affected by the crisis and to enable beneficiary families to celebrate the end-of-year festivities in dignified conditions.

Items distributed include 50-kilogram bags of rice, vegetable oil, sardines, soap, detergent and buckets. The first phase of the operation was supervised by the Senior Divisional Officer for Mezam, Simon Emile Mooh, who reassured beneficiaries that the activity would continue in the coming days.

According to the SDO, the assistance is a gesture from the Head of State, delivered through the Ministry of Territorial Administration, to support displaced and vulnerable persons in the division.

"This assistance will enable families in difficult situations to celebrate the festive season with dignity. The Head of State has always shown concern for populations facing hardship, and this exercise will continue so that more families can benefit,” he said.

Nchofon Mingo Francis, Regional Coordinator of the Emergency Humanitarian Centre

The Regional Coordinator of the Emergency Humanitarian Centre, Nchofon Mingo Francis, explained that the distribution targets both IDPs and other vulnerable residents identified through local assessments. Although 600 households were initially planned for the first day, the number was increased following a high turnout.

“Today’s operation reached more than 650 households. The exercise will run for three days, and we expect close to 2,000 families to benefit across the region."

Beneficiaries described the initiative as timely, especially given rising living costs and preparations for the back-to-school period.

One beneficiary, Julius Asongwe, who is visually impaired, said the support would greatly assist his family.

“These items will help us during the festive season and as we prepare for school resumption. We are very grateful,” he said.

Officials at the humanitarian office say the distribution will continue on the 30th and 31st of December 2025.
