The Minister of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development has distinguished the Nkambe Council as the best managed council in terms of execution of the public investment projects in the North West Region in particular and Cameroon in general.
The council emerged winner with four other councils in the country.
In a ceremony to congratulate and reward Nkambe Council, held at the Hilton Hotel in Yaounde, Tuesday 16th September 2025, the council was tasked with selecting a project worth 50 million Francs that will be financed by MINEPAT.
"I am pleased to inform you that your council has been awarded a special public investment grant in the gross amount of 50 million Francs. This grant is intended to finance a public investment project that will benefit the population of your community during the 2026 financial year.
"In order to make the aforementioned budgetary allocation available, kindly send to MINEPAT as soon as possible, the technical documentation for the priority project that you will select." A section of a letter from Minister Alamine Ousmane Mey to the Mayor reads.
The Minister also said "it is an important milestone in the era of decentralization and we want to reward the best." Alamine Ousmane Mey said.
On hand to receive the award on behalf of the council and the people of Nkambe was the Honourable Ngala Gerard, Member of Parliament for Nkambe Central Constituency.
He applauded the tact and dedication that the Mayor of Nkambe, Musa Shey Nfor has used to manage the council which has become a reference in the country.
"The Mayor of Nkambe has been steadfast in his development plan of Nkambe. The council has emerged as one of the cleanest in Cameroon and today, it is one of the best in project execution. I must congratulate him, his staff and the entire people of Nkambe." Hon Ngala said.
It went further to state that "we will use the prize to execute a project that will be income generating, and can serve the youths and women of the municipality to ensure that they have jobs."
Other winners of the special prize includes the councils of Pette, Idenau, Ndelele and Nyambuka.
The award ceremony was also witnessed by the Ministers of Finance and the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Public Contracts.
