North West: NUDP Gains Momentum, Former SDF G27 members Join Forces for 2025 Presidential Elections

      Senior NUDP Members in Bamenda

The Secretary General of the National Union for Democracy and Progress, Pierre Flambeau Ngayap has officially welcomed members of the G27 of the SDF, resident in the North West, who were excluded from the party to the NUDP.

In a press conference held in Bamenda, Pierre Flambeau Ngayap appreciated the courage and determination of the new members, appreciating them for choosing the most popular political party in Cameroon after the CPDM.

"The NUDP has the most representatives in the National Assembly, Senate, Regional Council, councils and we believe that if the ruling party did not have special ways to govern, the NUDP should have been the major political force." Pierre Flambeau Ngayap said.

Leading the members of the North West Region from the G27 to the NUDP, Emmanuel Yoyo said it was a decision made after careful considerations were done. Starting from the point that the NUDP provides the same political ideologies like the founding fathers of the SDF. He says their support to Bello Bouba Maigari, National President of the NUDP hinges on the fact that, "He is seen as by Cameroonians as a leader who is clean and clear of scandals which are not common with most people who have been given the opportunity to govern.

"We believe that he can bring an end to this senseless war that has taken the lives of too many anglophones and left our regions in ruin. This should not be done with guns but through humane and realistic policies." Hon Yoyo said.

The former Vice National Financial Secretary of the SDF said a return to the Federal system of government, the creation of the post of Vice-president with defined functions and the rotation of the post of President between Anglophones and Francophones will be a major step towards the final burial of the crisis." They're also telling the population of the North West that political prisoners will be released and the form of the state will be negotiated.

On this subject, Pierre Flambeau Ngayap said Bello Bouba Maigari will undertake a tour of the Nation to listen to the Cameroonian people, their aspirations and expectations. He condemned the fact that a selected few of privileged Cameroonians are now speaking on behalf of the population without due consultation.

"I can assure you that Maigari Bello Bouba will undertake a national tour to all the regions of Cameroon. He will be in Bamenda in the next two weeks to meet and listen to the people." The National SG of NUDP said.

Quizzed on the preparedness of the party ahead of the Presidential elections, coming 33 years since the party last participated, Pierre Flambeau Ngayap said the party only missed out on the 1997, 2004, 2011 and 2018 Presidential Elections but has been a major player in Municipal, regional and Legislative elections. The Secretary General of the party was clear that the NUDP is ready to win the elections on October 12th and bring the change Cameroonians want.

Pierre Flambeau Ngayap used the presser to assure the following from the North West that the party is not a Northerners affair as they have won seats in several council areas in the Southern zone of Cameroon like in the Littoral and East in 2013 and 2020 respectively. The party won seats across the National territory when the SDF boycotted the 1992 Municipal and Legislative elections.

The party he says is getting scrutineers ready for the polls which he says they will win.

Asked further if the party will welcome an idea of a coalition, Pierre Flambeau Ngayap said that talks are ongoing and he could not comment further on the issue.

Journalists also asked if the G27 joining the NUDP will not create further cracks within the ranks of the opposition. Honourable Senator Jean Tsomelou, former Secretary General of the SDF said they were excluded from the party and so did not resign. He explained that the G27 wanted the return of the SDF to the core values of power to the people, equal opportunities for all as well as accountability to the masses which was becoming farfetched. So after a careful thinking, they have decided to join the ranks of the NUDP.

Asked about the program of Bello Bouba Maigari to Cameroonians, Pierre Flambeau Ngayap said during the National tour of their flag bearer, the extensive program will be ruled out.

The welcoming of Emmanuel Yoyo and Alhadji Sidiki to the NUDP fold, marks the first political activity in the North West Region of a political party outside of the CPDM and the SDF.

The NUDP was founded in 1991.
