Cameroonian actress and humanitarian Azah Melvin, popularly known as Nimo Azah, has donated school bags, books and other learning materials to vulnerable pupils of Government Primary School (GPS) Mulang in Bamenda II Subdivision. She also paid Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) fees for 20 pupils as part of her Nimo Azah Back-to-School Programme.

The donation, which took place on Friday, October 9, 2026, was aimed at helping children from struggling families meet some of their basic educational needs and encouraging them to remain in school despite the difficulties faced by their parents.

GPS Mulang has about 600 pupils, many of whom come from vulnerable backgrounds. According to a representative of the Head Teacher, Theresia Tita, some parents find it difficult to pay even the annual PTA fee of FCFA 3,000. This situation places additional pressure on families who are already struggling to provide food, clothing and other basic needs for their children.

The donation from Nimo Azah therefore came as a welcome relief to the beneficiaries, as the school bags, books and other didactic materials would help them prepare better for their lessons.

Speaking on behalf of the Head Teacher, Theresia Tita expressed gratitude to the actress for remembering the school and supporting children in need.

She explained that the assistance would help the pupils concentrate on their studies without worrying about unpaid PTA fees. She also noted that the happiness seen on the faces of the children showed how much the support meant to them. However, she pointed out that examination fees remained a challenge for some pupils and appealed for more support to help them meet this need.

Speaking during the donation ceremony, Nimo Azah said her decision to support the children was motivated by the difficult situation faced by many families in the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon. She explained that the ongoing crisis in the two regions had affected the lives and livelihoods of many parents, making it difficult for them to provide their children with everything they needed for school.

She said her intervention was not because she had a lot of money but because she believed in giving back to her community and helping those who needed support.

Nimo Azah stressed that children needed encouragement from people around them to continue their education, especially at a time when many parents were facing financial difficulties. She said the donation was a way of standing with these families and encouraging them not to give up on their children's future.

The actress, who has spent 13 years in the film industry and won about 15 awards, including the Best Central African Actress award, also described herself as a humanitarian committed to supporting community development and promoting spoken languages especially Mankon.

She placed special emphasis on the education of the girl child, saying she wanted to encourage girls to remain in school and work towards achieving their dreams. According to her, her own difficulties while growing up had helped her understand the challenges some children face.

Nimo Azah said she believed that when people are given opportunities to succeed, they should also help others who are struggling. She explained that supporting vulnerable girls was one way of giving them hope and helping them build a better future through education.

Under the Nimo Azah Back-to-School Programme, the actress paid PTA fees for 20 pupils and provided school bags, books and other learning materials. The gesture was intended to reduce some of the financial pressure on parents and help the beneficiaries begin or continue the school year with the necessary materials.

The pupils who benefited from the donation expressed happiness and appreciation. Primus, a Primary Six pupil at GPS Mulang 1 who has a mobility impairment, thanked Nimo Azah for the assistance and prayed that God would bless her and give her the means to support more children in the future.

Another beneficiary, Sam Esther, also a Primary Six pupil, expressed gratitude to the actress and wished her God's blessings for remembering them.

The donation ceremony was also an opportunity for the pupils to enjoy themselves through entertainment and traditional games. Jato Sonita of the Forest Children performed for the children, drawing them closer to culture and adding excitement to the occasion.

The pupils also participated in traditional games, including "I Mash Line," tug-of-war and sag race. These activities created a lively atmosphere and allowed the children to interact with one another outside the classroom.

Nimo Azah encouraged the pupils to take their studies seriously and work hard to succeed in their examinations. She promised to do more for them during future visits if they performed well in their exams.
