Jubilation in Fundong: Residents celebrate return of Electricity after 18 months

Jubilation filled the streets of Fundong, headquarters of Boyo Division, as denizens celebrated the long-awaited installation of a new electricity transformer, bringing to an end 18 months of blackout in parts of the Divisional Headquarter.

For close to 18 months, several neighborhoods in Fundong had been plunged into darkness following the breakdown of the town’s main transformer, the outage did not only disrupt businesses and household activities but also slowed down social life, forcing many to rely on generators, lamps, and firewood for lighting and their energy needs which comes at exorbitant prices.


Arrival of the New Transformer 


The arrival and installation of the new transformer on August 23rd, 2025, was met with excitement and relief, residents poured into the streets to celebrate, some describing the event as “a return to normal life.” Market vendors, students, and small business owners in particular expressed joy, highlighting how the absence of electricity had negatively impacted their businesses.

Speaking during the installation,  Mayor Denis Awoh Ndang, acknowledged the hardship endured by the community and praised the resilience of the population. He assured them that the new transformer would improve the stability of power supply in Fundong and it's surrounding areas, as the population goes about their normal activities. 

Electricity officials on their part promised to ensure proper maintenance of the facility, while urging residents to use power responsibly to avoid future breakdowns.

With electricity restored, many in Fundong see this as a fresh start, hoping that the consistent supply of power will not only ease living conditions but also stimulate economic and social activities that had been slowed for more than a year.

It is worth mentioning that this transformer was purchased by the Fundong council under the auspices of mayor Denis Awoh Ndang. 

According to local a resident, "we can finally breathe again, for over a year, life has been very difficult without light, today feels like freedom as I'm going to sleep with electricity all night." He said

The installation of the new transformer marks a significant relief for Fundong inhabitants who endured months of darkness, and it sets the stage for renewed economic activity and community development in Fundong Boyo Division.



Rev. Fr. Tata Thomson blessed the new transformer while appreciating mayor Denis Awoh Ndang, for his love for the population and the municipality. He prayed for God's protection over the Mayor as he continues to deliver basic essential facilities to the people of the Municipality.
