The Mayor of Bamenda II Council, Chenwi Peter has once again made a significant impact on the international scene, following his groundbreaking visits to Toronto in August and November 2024.
These visits laid the groundwork for partnerships between Bamenda II Council and Canadian entities, including the establishment of a Partnership Cooperation between Bamenda II Council and the City Council of Brampton in Ontario Province, Canada, as well as the creation of the first ever African Business Center (ABC) in Toronto.
Building on the momentum from these previous visits, Mayor Chenwi embarked on another successful trip to Canada in June 2025.
This time, he was invited as a Guest Speaker at the Canada-Africa Business Summit, a prestigious event that brought together Business Influencers and Thought Leaders from across the globe. The summit, held from July 2nd to 4th, 2025, at the Pearson Convention Centre in Toronto, Canada, provided Mayor Chenwi with a platform to showcase the potential of Bamenda II Council and Cameroon in general.
As one of the only two Guest Speakers from Africa, Mayor Chenwi delivered a compelling presentation, highlighting the strategic role that Bamenda II Council and Cameroon could play in Canada-Africa Business Development initiatives. He showcased Cameroon's potential in areas like Agriculture, Energy, and Minerals, projecting the country's image as "Africa in Miniature" due to its diverse natural resources and economic opportunities.
The Mayor's efforts are expected to yield significant benefits for Bamenda II Municipality, including financing for a Waste Management Plant that will treat and transform waste into useful by-products like electricity, fuels, and fertilizer. This project is anticipated to create new job opportunities, improve waste management, protect the environment, and reduce juvenile delinquency.
During his visit, Mayor Chenwi also took time to connect with Cameroonians in Toronto, including Emmanuel Ntoko, who has supported Bamenda II Council projects and paved the way for the cooperation with major City Councils in Ontario, Canada. These connections are expected to further strengthen the ties between Bamenda II Council and the Canadian diaspora community.
With these developments, Mayor Chenwi's visits to Canada are proving to be fruitful, opening doors for new opportunities and collaborations that will benefit the people of Bamenda II Municipality and Cameroon at large.
