Bamenda II Council: Foundation Stone for low cost Housing laid

The Senior Divisional Officer for Mezam, has officially laid the foundation stone for the construction of an ultra modern 13 low cost houses and rehabilitation of road to the project site in Bamenda II Municipality. The foundation stone was laid Friday 5, March 2023.


According to the Mayor of Bamenda II, Chenwi Peter, the aim is to contribute effectively and sustainably to the improvement of the welfare of the population of the North West Region.

He added that the high intensive labour project will recruit 185 workers of the Bamenda II Municipality who will equally be trained for the 18 months project.

"We are fortunate to be among the 7 selected councils for the HIMO project through the ministry of economic, planning and regional development. We also have to construct more schools and hospitals in the Bamenda II Municipality", Mayor Chnewi Peter said.


The HIMO project coordinator, Medand Kouatchou, noted that the project to construct the social housing  project in Bamenda II is using labour base approach and expected to train the 185 workers who will be paid on weekly basis throughout the project. He added that the first phase of the project has already received 100 million FCFA transferred to the council account.

Also present at the event was the Bamenda City Council mayor, Achombang Tambeng Paul who remarked that tough times don't last and calls on the beneficiaries to carry the message of peace to their brothers carrying arms against the state. 

Mayor Achombang Paul added that Bamenda is gradually transforming to the city of the future and he urged the councilors to collaborate with their Mayor for more sustainable projects.


On his part, the representative of the Senior Divisional Officer for Mezam, said in few months Bamenda II will be equipped with social lodging houses. This he says will reduce the level of unemployment in Bamenda II subdivision.

"I urged the stakeholders to combine their efforts and take up the challenge to ensure that the high intensive labour base project to realize 13 social low cost apartment houses is successful", He added.

The construction of the ultra modern low cost houses is expected to be completed within 8 months, and will cost the government 307 million francs.


To a resident of the Bamenda II Municipality, the project has already paved the way for growth in Bamenda II and will created employment to the youths.  "We express our sincere gratitude to the Mayor of Bamenda II council  and to the Minister of Economic Planing for thinking about us and promoting livelihood in Bamenda."
The Ceremony to lay the foundation stone of the 13 low cost apartment houses in Bamenda II ended in grand style as the council also handed working materials to all the workers who answered present.

The 13 low cost houses will be constructed on a total surface area of 3000 square metres.
