COVID-19: NW Public Health Delegate cautions confined patients, issues 10 point measures

Communique from Regional Delegate of Public Health

Since the outbreak of the second wave of the coronavirus disease in the North West region, the region as of now has recorded 1258 active cases, 1208 are currently receiving treatment at home while 50 are receiving treatment at the treatment center. Giving a greater percentage of these infected persons living at home, therefore increases the rate of transmission if not well controlled and educated.

In a recent testimony from the treatment center and counsellors of the Regional Hospital Bamenda many infected COVID-19 persons quarantined and receiveing treatment at home find it difficult respecting rules and measures surrounding treatment. Most patients find themselves leaving their houses without facemask therefore increasing the potential rate of transmission of the virus.

In a 10 point message to confined patients infected with coronavirus receiving treatment at home, the regional covid19 incident manager/ the regional Delegate of public health  Dr Che soh made it clear, cover your cough, monitor your symptoms, wash your hands with clean water and soap for atleast 28 seconds and call the number 1510 for any information related to the disease .

Patients have been adviced to stay home monitor their symptoms carefully, and if symptoms become worse call 1510.

Much rest is best, and stay hydrated while following  prescribed medications

While coughing or sneezing, cover your mouth and keep the house ventilated.

Frequent washing of hands with soap and water and use a hand sanitizer with atleast 60% of alcohol.

Encourage all family members to maintain a one meter (1m) distance from you.

Avoid sharing personal items with others including cups, dishes, towels, bathings

If you live with others, always put on a face mask if possible stay in a separate room and use a separate room

All family members should have a face mask on when having direct contact with an infected person

Surfaces frequently touched (doorknots, table tops)  should be frequently disinfected with a chlorine solution

Family members with illnesses such as Diabetes, hypertension, asthma and people of above 50years are liable to the disease, as such should stay away from infected person till they recover

He ends his note with a loud sounding warning calling on infected persons to avoid crowded place and stay home, if need be for going out, public transport should be avoided.

The Northwest region in the race for tasting for covid19 in the 10 regions of Cameroon have succeeded in creating 309 testing sites, in Tubah, Santa, Oku, Bali, Wum and others. Consequently training more nurses and giving them more testing kits.

In their recent outing the regional Delegate of public health and the Governor Adolphe Lele took to the streets of Bamenda to sensitise the population on the risk of contracting COVID-19 when you are a high blood and diabetes patient. Keeping the basic measures will keep you and your family safe.

Facemask all the time, facemask all the time is the new slogan to combat the disease in the region
