Obtaining Civil status Documents, INADES Formation sensitisation matures

After sensitization, couple signs wedding

Following months of sensitization by INADES Formation, the project for inhabitants of Bamenda and the North West region to acquire civil status documents (Birth, Death and Marriage Certificates) is beginning to mature.

Over 75 couples drawn from within the Bamenda III Municipality have on Friday February 26th, 2021, through a mass wedding organised by INADES Formation in collaboration with Bamenda III Council, signed marriage certificates making their stay legal as the per the Cameroon law.

The program to get couples acquire marriage certificates is financed by PROCIVIS through INADES Formation in collaboration with the Cameroon government. The signing of the 75 marriage certificates comes after a sensitization campaign by INADES Formation in the Bamenda III Municipality.

Sama Emmanuel, Regional Delegate INADES Formation

The Regional Delegate for INADES Sama Emmanuel reacting shortly after the legalisation, highlighted the aim of the day

"We are here today to see how we can legalize marriages. We know so many persons, husbands and wives are staying together without real marriage, they have done the traditional marriage but for the council. And the Cameroon law states that if you are not entitled to a married certificate then you are not married. So today we have done a lot of sensitization in various places. We have been to churches, meeting houses, and we are able to have 75 couples who come up to make their marriages legal."

This comes after Bamenda III Council has had mass marriages and intends to continue, not stopping the course with the 75 couples of this day according to Fongu Cletus Tanwie, Mayor of the Bamenda III council.

"We are today contracting over 75 couples in the Bamenda III municipality you know the importance of the marriage certificate to the family. And if we have gone this far it is because of our collaboration with other external organisations like INADES Formation who provided support to us. At the level of the Bamenda III council we made sure we wave all the fees that patent to marriage. I will want to say congratulations to the couples and I think this can safe as an example to others out there who have not been able to establish this certificate." Mayor Fongu Cletus
