Bafut council bars the way to COVID-19, empowers Traditional Authorities

The Mayor of Bafut, Ngwa Nkongho Lawrence has handed over sanitary kits to some chiefs of the Bafut Municipality Wednesday April 22nd

The sanitary kits consists of hand sanitizers, soap, face mask, buckets and bucket taps

While handing over the kits, the Mayor insisted that measures put in place by the world Health organisation (WHO) and the Government of Cameroon should be strictly followed



The Government of Cameroon has put in place 20 measures to curb the spread of the virus.

The District Medical officer of Bafut, Dr Njefi Yves reminded the chiefs and quarter heads that they don't play politics with health

"These are life saving kits. The time to play politics is over. We have to rise like one man in the face of this global pandemic"

Though the subdivision is yet to record a case, preventive measures must be taken he says

"We do mobile Money transactions, we touch surfaces. If we don't constantly wash our hands with soap or disinfect them, we are liable to carry the virus"

He used the meeting to also warn against habits that destroy the immune system like smoking and heavy drinking and recommended that hand sanitizers should be bought only from public hospitals and recommended pharmacies. This he says the market is flooded with glycerine in the name of sanitizers

Bafut DO, Achu George asked the various communities to judiciously manage the kits




The Bafut Council area is one of the hardest hit in the Anglophone crisis that has lingered on for three years and counting

The Mayor used the opportunity to call on the Elites and youths to partner with the council for meaningful Development of his municipality
