Bamenda City Council, Edge Enterprise Partner to Transform Customs Junction

City Mayor, Edge construction company at Customs Junction

The Bamenda City Council has expressed appreciation to Edge Construction Company/Enterprise for accepting to rehabilitate and modernise Custom Junction at Up station Bamenda, as part of the city's ambition to transform Bamenda into a modern urban centre.

Speaking during a field visit to the project site, the City Mayor Paul Achobong Tambeng praised the Chief Executive Officer of Edge Enterprise, Tachang Pius, for responding positively to the council's appeal to improve the junction, which was not initially included in the ongoing road rehabilitation project linking Custom Junction to Government Bilingual High School (GBHS) Bamendakwe.

Mayor Paul Achobong  disclosed that the company had accepted to undertake the additional works at no cost to the city council as he called on residents and business operators around the junction to cooperate with the project by removing structures and facilities that could obstruct construction works while noting that prior notices had been served on occupants within the project area, adding that some, including the Customs Department, had already begun voluntarily removing structures to facilitate the exercise.

For his part, the CEO of Edge Enterprise, Tachang Pius, explained, the decision to rehabilitate Custom Junction was motivated by the need to complement the ongoing 1.3 kilometre dual carriageway project stretching from GBHS Bamendakwe down to Custom Junction.

According to him, although the main road project covers the stretch, the junction itself was not included in the initial works. Edge Enterprise therefore decided to intervene independently, noting that rehabilitating the surrounding roads without properly developing the junction would leave the overall transformation incomplete.

The proposed design is said to have already received technical approval from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development and the technical services of the Bamenda City Council.

The design takes into consideration traffic volume, engineering specifications and the long-term needs of the city, with the objective of creating a junction capable of serving  Bamenda for several decades.

The initiative has received support from administrative and municipal authorities, as well as residents around the project site.

The City Mayor of the Bamenda City Council has consequently called on all stakeholders to demonstrate civic responsibility and patriotism by supporting the successful realisation of the project.

The Custom Junction rehabilitation is expected to add value to ongoing urban development efforts as Bamenda pursues its ambition of becoming a modern city, in line with the City Mayor's vision of bringing the city closer to what he describes as the Abu Dhabi of the future.
