WCPDM Section President, Senator Prof. Nebah with a cross section of women

The Women's Wing of the Cameroon People's Democratic Movement, WCPDM, Mezam IA Section has held a major evaluation meeting to assess the activities of its basic organs, from the Section to Subsections, Branches and Cells.

The meeting, which brought together more than 1000 women from across Bamenda I Subdivision, aimed to review grassroots activities, pass on instructions from the party hierarchy, and evaluate the women's preparedness for upcoming political engagements.

Addressing the gathering, the WCPDM Section President, Senator Prof. Mrs. Nebah Bridget Ndosiri, expressed deep gratitude to the women for their loyalty and steadfast commitment to the party, especially during the most difficult moments in Bamenda I.

"When I look at this hall, I see the real strength of our Party. I see the women who never abandoned the CPDM even when the night was very dark in Bamenda. While many ran away, you stayed," Senator Nebah said.

She praised their courage for keeping the party alive and thanked them for keeping Bamenda I alive.

The Section President used the occasion to remind the women of what is at stake. She said the upcoming Municipal and Legislative elections will be decisive for the future of the CPDM in Bamenda I.

"If we lose Bamenda I Council, we will lose everything. We will lose the City Council. We will lose our Parliamentary seat. Later we will lose the Senate. And for five years, no one will call us to the table where decisions about our markets, our roads, our children are taken," she warned.

Senator Nebah called on the women to remain united, active, and not sit at home thinking victory will come by itself. She stressed their numerical strength, noting that in Bamenda I, women make up more than half of the population and are the majority in every voting line.

"Mothers of Bamenda I, you are our numbers, you are our power. If each of you decides today - 'I will bring ten women to vote' - we have already won. Not just won, we will have a landslide," she told the cheering crowd.

Preach Peace in Your Quarters

Beyond politics, the Senator made a strong appeal for peace.

Describing Bamenda I as a Subdivision that has been resilient though children and businesses have suffered. She urged the women, as mothers before being politicians, to be ambassadors of peace in their respective quarters.

"Tell our sons to keep peace. Tell our families to send our children to school. Where a WCPDM mother speaks, let there be reconciliation, not hate. When you bring peace, the population will trust you. And when they trust you, they will vote for you," she said.

Economic Empowerment Through CIGs

Another major highlight was women's economic empowerment. Senator Nebah acknowledged the women's cry about working and standing on their own feet, noting that "politics on an empty stomach is difficult."

She announced a practical plan to help them organize into Common Initiative Groups, CIGs. She challenged each Subsection to create at least two CIGs to engage in gardening, poultry, piggery, trading and other income-generating activities.

"Organize yourselves. When you are in a group, I can help you. The council can help you. The Government can help you. But if you stay alone, no one will see you," she explained, adding that being in groups will make it easier to access council and government grants and empowerment programmes.

The meeting recorded the defection of eight former militants from opposition political parties to the CPDM. They were warmly received and handed WCPDM fabrics as a symbol of acceptance into the party. According to the section President,  they have seen light in the party and it is shining. The crowd erupted in cheers to welcome them to the CPDM.

Also speaking at the event, the Divisional Officer for Bamenda I, Dolingo Diongo, called on mothers to sensitize their children on the dangers of drug abuse and cybercrime, warning that a major crackdown is imminent. He also reminded the population to respect the law prohibiting more than two persons on a motorcycle and to maintain public order.

The meeting ended with the women taking a pledge to continue supporting the CPDM, to vote for the party and protect their votes in the upcoming elections.
