The Cameroon Peoples Democratic Movement (CPDM) has organized a one-day seminar aimed at updating party members of what is needed of them ahead of the Municipal and legislative elections.
The seminar which brought together militants from Upper and Lower Bawock on Sunday 30th August 2026, saw participants being drilled on what it will take for them to present themselves as candidates at the Municipal and parliamentary elections, how they should conduct themselves in a region marked by crisis and why the CPDM party must win. The meeting was part of a series of sensitisation meetings organised at national, regional, divisional and subsection levels following a call by the Head of State and National Chairman of the CPDM, President Paul Biya, for party militants to prepare for the elections.
At the Mezam III Section Bali level, militants held their seminar on August 28, before the two Bawock subsections organised theirs, two days later under the coordination of Rudolf Wanji, who is also the coordinator of Upper and Lower Bawock.
During the meeting, speakers explained the conditions for prospective candidates, the role of militants and the need for grassroots mobilisation ahead of the elections.
Wanji used the occasion to reaffirm what he described as Bawock's longstanding loyalty to the CPDM, recalling that the community remained committed to the party even during periods when the opposition SDF controlled a majority of councils in the North West.
“When we still had a majority of SDF Councils in the North West, Bawock was and stayed committed to the ideals of the New Deal and the CPDM,” he said, insisting that the community could still be counted on for the party's future electoral engagements.
The youth wing of the party also pledged its support for the upcoming elections. Nubed Kimie Valery, YCPDM Subsection President for Lower Bawock, said young militants had already undergone sensitisation at different levels and were prepared to contribute to the party's campaign when the elections are convened.
“We the youths are ready. We have been properly trained from the Regional to the Divisional Level and now the sub section level. I can assure our hierarchy that we are adequately prepared and ready to do our part whenever the elections are convened,” Valery said.
But beyond political mobilisation, the gathering provided an opportunity to address one of the community's most immediate concerns, education.
The seminar culminated in the distribution of 32 cartons of didactic materials to children of CPDM militants and other children whose families are willing to identify with the party. The materials included exercise books ranging from smaller notebooks to books of up to 300 leaves, as well as pens, pencils, rulers and erasers. Some children also received school bags.
Rudolf Wanji explained that the back-to-school support was not a new initiative, but an annual exercise he has been carrying out for several years. He said this year's distribution coincided with the CPDM sensitisation campaign, providing an opportunity to combine political mobilisation with practical support for families preparing for the new academic year.
According to him, the objective is to encourage children to return to Bawock and resume their education, particularly after disruptions that have affected normal life in the community.
He said no parent should allow a child to remain at home simply because the family cannot afford basic school materials.
The intervention also extended to school infrastructure. Wanji said some school benches had been destroyed and it was necessary to provide some benches alongside learning materials.
He promised further support to the schools once classes resume, including chalk, buckets and other basic materials needed for the day-to-day running of the schools
He said his commitment to education in Bawock also includes encouraging school enrolment especially as the school did exceedingly well at the GCE Ordinary and Advanced Level.
