The Mayor of Tubah Council, Tanjong Martin Meshangong, has been honoured as a Local Development Champion at the 2026 Cameroon English Language Newspaper Publishers Association (CENPA) Awards in recognition of his contribution to grassroots development and the implementation of public investment projects.
The award was presented on Saturday, September 19, at the GECAM Hall in Bonanjo, Douala, during a ceremony recognising individuals and institutions whose activities are contributing to development and public service.
Mayor Tanjong Martin was recognised for his efforts in translating Cameroon’s decentralisation policy into concrete development initiatives within Tubah Municipality, particularly through the execution of Public Investment Projects aimed at addressing the needs of local communities.
Receiving the award from Website Publisher Chifu George, the mayor described the recognition as both an honour and a renewed responsibility to the people of Tubah.
“This award is a call for me to do more,” Mayor Tanjong Martin said.
He dedicated the recognition to his council team, partners and the population of Tubah Municipality, stressing that local development requires collective effort.
“It is a recognition that belongs not only to me, but to the entire council team, our partners and the population of Tubah Municipality. It challenges us to continue working harder to ensure that development reaches every community.”
The mayor said effective decentralisation should be measured by the tangible improvements citizens experience in their communities, adding that councils have an important role to play in translating government policies into practical development outcomes.
For Mayor Tanjong Martin, the CENPA award is not an endpoint but an incentive to strengthen efforts to improve services and living conditions across the municipality.
He said his administration would continue to focus on ensuring that public investments respond to local priorities and generate lasting benefits for residents.
The mayor also acknowledged the contribution of traditional authorities, development partners, civil society organisations and residents, noting that sustainable development depends on cooperation among stakeholders.
“This recognition strengthens our resolve to remain accountable to our people and to continue placing their needs at the centre of our actions,” he said.
He further pledged to ensure that municipal projects contribute meaningfully to the growth and welfare of the population.
“We will work to make sure that every project undertaken contributes meaningfully to the growth, welfare and future of Tubah Municipality.”
The CENPA recognition adds to efforts by local authorities across Cameroon to give practical meaning to decentralisation through community-focused development and public investment.
For the Tubah Council, the award represents recognition of work already undertaken while placing renewed emphasis on accountability, service delivery and inclusive development across the municipality.
