Bafut subdivision could see a rapid change in its development drive following a meeting between Bafut elites, development stakeholders and the Minister of Public Works, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi, in Yaoundé.
The meeting, held on Friday, September 4, 2026, at the Minister’s cabinet, gave the Bafut delegation an opportunity to thank the government for plans to begin works on the Bamenda–Bafut–Wum section of the Ring Road.
The delegation also used the meeting to present other development needs facing the subdivision, particularly the poor state of roads, schools and other basic infrastructure.
The Member of the North West Regional Assembly, Chebelem Gordon Anyele, who led the delegation, outlined some of the challenges affecting the population and presented a number of projects aimed at improving infrastructure and living conditions in Bafut.
To the Mayor of Bafut, Ngwakongoh Lawrence, expressed appreciation to the Minister for his continued attention to the subdivision and the government's plans to improve the area.
The same message was echoed by the National President of Bafut Manjong, Che Bianka Leslie, who also pledged the support of the Bafut community for the proposed projects. He called for cooperation among all stakeholders to ensure that the projects are successfully implemented.
Reacting to the interventions of the Bafut Elites, Minister Nganou Djoumessi responded positively to the proposals presented by the delegation and promised to personally follow up on its implementation.
He also announced plans to visit Bafut in the coming months to personally launch some of the projects.
The meeting also carried a traditional dimension. A representative of Fon Abumbi II announced the Minister’s designation as a Senior Notable of Bafut, an honour which the Minister accepted with appreciation.
Bafut with more than 54 Villages is very vast and movements from one areas to another is very difficult especially when it rains. An intervention from the Ministry of Public Works will greatly enhance the livelihood of the people.
Bafut is noted for the mining of sand as well as the production of Cocoayams and ginger but poor road infrastructure makes these goods to reach the market under severe difficulty.
Improving the road network and construction of bridges could transform Bafut into an Eldorado in the next few years.
