Hon. Dr. Nguh Nicolas Santos has been installed as President of the Atieghu Sub-Section of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, CPDM, in Mezam 1C, with the new leadership setting its sights on strengthening the party’s grassroots presence and winning the Bamenda III Council.
Dr. Santos was installed on Saturday, August 22, 2026, by the Mezam 1C Section President, Ndaka Nicolas, during a CPDM strategic meeting held at the North West Regional Assembly premises at Upstation, Bamenda.
A clinical psychologist and humanitarian, Dr. Santos brings both professional and political experience to his new position. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Buea, a master’s degree in counselling psychology from Capella University in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and a doctorate in applied clinical psychology from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology in California.
His professional career has included work with the United States Department of Health, while his humanitarian activities have also earned him recognition in the United States.
Dr. Santos is equally no newcomer to the CPDM. His political journey dates back to the 1990s when he became involved with the party’s youth wing at the University of Buea. He served as Vice-President of the Molyko Sub-Section and later as Assistant Treasurer of the Fako I Section in Limbe. He also remained active in CPDM activities while living in North America.
Now back in Mezam, the new Atieghu Sub-Section President says his priority is to help reinvigorate the party in Bamenda III, particularly in Nkwen, which he describes as the heartbeat of Mezam 1C.
He believes the party must increasingly rely on candidates who are not only politically active but also have a visible record of service and community development.
Dr. Santos pointed to his own humanitarian activities in Nkwen and other communities, including support for children's education, assistance to internally displaced pupils through school materials and tuition, water projects, solar lighting initiatives, road works and medical assistance.
He also said he was among the principal contributors to the recent acquisition of a vehicle for the Fon of Nkwen.
For Dr. Santos, such interventions can help political leaders reconnect with the population and strengthen the CPDM's appeal, particularly in areas where the party has faced electoral difficulties.
He also called for fresh ideas and renewed leadership within the party, arguing that the changing political environment requires leaders who understand the realities and expectations of the population.
The installation came as CPDM structures across the North West Region intensify preparations for the forthcoming municipal and legislative elections.
Mezam 1C Section President Ndaka Nicolas urged the newly installed leadership to immediately get to work, with particular attention on voter registration ahead of the August 31 deadline.
The new Atieghu Sub-Section bureau also includes Ta Ntoh Achumukala Collins as Treasurer and Dr. Asongwe Cyprian as Adviser.
Dr. Santos said the CPDM must improve on its previous electoral performance in Mezam and expressed confidence that stronger grassroots mobilisation and the selection of credible candidates could help the party make significant gains.
For Bamenda III, the ambition is clear- to reclaim the council.
“We are going after it,” Dr. Santos declared, signalling the determination of the new leadership to turn renewed political mobilisation in Nkwen into electoral success.
The task before the newly installed Atieghu Sub-Section leadership will now be to translate that ambition into action by strengthening party structures, reaching out to militants and voters, and preparing the ground for the electoral battles ahead.
