The Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, CPDM, in Mezam has intensified preparations ahead of the forthcoming municipal and legislative elections, with party leaders acknowledging that there is still significant work to be done, particularly in ensuring that all militants are registered to vote.
The issue came to the fore during a seminar that brought together senior CPDM officials at the North West Regional Assembly in Bamenda, Saturday 22nd August 2026. The meeting brought together party officials, including mayors, Members of Parliament, section presidents and other leaders from across Mezam Division.
Professor Fru Angwafo III, sitting in for the President of the Mezam DivisionalCoordination Team, reportedly admitted that the CPDM still has important work to do at the grassroots level.
“We have a lot of homework,” he told party officials, in an apparent reference to the need to strengthen mobilisation and ensure that militants are ready for the electoral process.
One of the major concerns raised was the discovery that some CPDM members are not yet registered to vote. With the voter registration deadline ending on August 31, party leaders are under pressure to ensure that militants and supporters who are eligible to vote complete the registration process.
The meeting also reportedly witnessed the registration of 36 new members into the party, an indication that the CPDM is continuing efforts to expand its support base ahead of the elections.
The party's strategy in Mezam appears to be centred on strengthening its grassroots structures, improving discipline within its ranks and ensuring that its militants are fully prepared for the electoral contest.
Rather than relying only on campaign rallies and public declarations, party leaders are placing emphasis on organisation at the local level, where voter registration and mobilisation could play an important role in determining the outcome of the elections.
The meeting comes as political parties across Cameroon continue to intensify activities ahead of the municipal and legislative elections. For the CPDM in Mezam, the immediate task is clear: ensure that its members are registered, organised and ready to translate party support into votes when Cameroonians eventually go to the polls.
With the elections drawing closer, the ruling party will be hoping that a stronger grassroots network and improved internal coordination can help it achieve its electoral ambitions in Mezam Division.
