Prof Fru Calistus Gentry, Interim Minister of Mines

The Minister of Mines, Industry and Technological Development (MINMIDT) has announced that the government will unveil key reforms and major mining projects aimed at transforming Cameroon's mining sector during a joint press briefing scheduled for Wednesday, July 15, 2026.

According to a press release issued by the ministry, the briefing will take place at 3:00 p.m. in the auditorium of the Ministry of Communication (MINCOM) in Yaoundé.

The event, jointly organised by the Ministry of Communication and the Ministry of Mines, Industry and Technological Development, will focus on "The New Face of Cameroon's Mining Sector: The Launch of Major Mining Projects and the Restructuring of the Gold Mining Industry."

During the briefing, the Minister of Mines, Industry and Technological Development is expected to present the government's reform agenda for the sector, outlining measures aimed at improving governance and increasing the contribution of mining to the national economy.

The reforms will focus on sanitising the mining sector, strengthening the traceability of mineral production, combating fraud and ensuring that the country's mineral resources generate greater economic benefits for the population.

The government says the briefing will also provide updates on the launch of major mining projects, which form part of broader efforts to modernise the industry and promote responsible exploitation of Cameroon's mineral resources.

The Ministry has invited journalists, mining sector stakeholders and the general public to attend the briefing, which is expected to provide further details on the government's plans to reshape one of the country's key economic sectors.
