The Ministry of Public Health has warned Cameroonians against undergoing cosmetic body filler injections outside authorised health facilities, citing growing concerns over the proliferation of the practice on social media and in private venues.
In a press release dated July 16, 2026, the Minister of Public Health, Dr. Manaouda Malachie, said the ministry has observed an increase in activities promoting and administering products marketed as "Body Fillers" to enlarge the buttocks, breasts and other parts of the body.
The ministry stressed that the injection of body fillers is a medical procedure that must only be carried out by duly qualified healthcare professionals in authorised health facilities and in accordance with existing medical regulations.
It warned that anyone carrying out such procedures outside the legal framework could face action from the competent authorities.
According to the ministry, the use of unapproved body filler products or injections administered by unqualified persons can lead to severe health complications. These include serious infections, allergic reactions, chronic pain, body deformities, migration of the injected product to other parts of the body, tissue necrosis and other life-threatening complications.
In response to the growing trend, the Ministry of Public Health has called on the public to exercise extreme caution regarding body filler services advertised on social media or offered in unauthorised locations.
The ministry reminded the public that cosmetic medical procedures should never be performed outside regulated healthcare settings and urged anyone considering such treatments to first consult a qualified physician or surgeon in an authorised health facility.
The minister also announced that relevant departments within the Ministry of Public Health have begun inspections to identify illegal practices. He warned that individuals or establishments found operating outside the law will be subject to the administrative and legal sanctions provided for under existing regulations.
The ministry concluded by urging Cameroonians to prioritise their health and safety and to report any suspicious cosmetic procedures or illegal body filler practices to the appropriate health authorities.
