Awambi Dance Group of Mbebali-Bafut
The people of Bafut under tbe auspices of the Mayor of Bafut Council, Mayor Ngwakongho Lawrence, representing the Fon of Bafut at the official visit of the Paramount Fon of Babadjou, Fo Kaffo Sambankeing Langevin, mobilized and thrilled the crowd with the Awambi Dance Group.
Representing the Fon of Bafut at the ceremony, the Mayor ensure that the Awambi Dance Group of Mbebali-Bafut welcomed the King of Babadjou with remarkable dance steps, entrilling band to the satisfaction of the Babadjou people and their guests.
Speaking to the Observer, Mayor Ngwakongho Lawrence said the mobilisation stems from a couple of factors that the Bafut people are greatful for. "Because of the crisis, a lot of sons and daughters from Bafut origin are resident in Babadjou. So this is to preach living together and peaceful co-existence." Mayor Ngwakongho said.
Expanding further on the reason why the Bafut community were overwhelmed in welcoming the new ruler of Babadjou, the Mayor of Bafut on behalf of the Fon of Bafut His Royal Highness Fon Abumbi II, says "They're people in Bamenda who have rendered a lot of services to the Bafut community and we were shocked to know that they're from Babadjou.
"It was also to pay homage to our Governor, a native of Babadjou who has handled this crisis with a lot of clevoyance. It was also an opportunity to tell his traditional ruler of a great son he has in Bamenda, piloting the affairs of the North West Region." Mayor Ngwakongho continued.
Clad in his royal beads and regalia, HRM Fo Kaffo Sambankeing Langevin acknowledged the cheers and traditional dances with waves and blessings, visibly moved by the turnout.
In his speech, Fo Kaffo urged the Babadjou people residing in Bamenda to be law abiding and should choose peaceful coexistence with the people of Bamenda and the North West Region. The Babadjou ruler said. "Today I will be going back in mind that my children are in safe hands due to the warm welcome I have received from the Divisional officer for Bamenda I, the Fons of Bamendakwe, Bambili, Bafut, Akum as well as the City Mayor and the Mayor of Bafut. I hereby urge my sons and daughters to be law abiding and respect the laws enforced so as to maintain the peaceful coexistence and fraternity which are inherent to us."
The visit was the first for the Fon who was enthroned in September 2024.
