A student of the University of Bamenda has been shot dead by unknown gunmen in Bambui, a community in Tubah Subdivision of the North-West Region.
According to local sources, the student was enrolled in the Department of English Modern Letters at the University of Bamenda. She was killed on Monday, June 8, 2026.
Her identity had not been officially confirmed at the time of reporting because her identification documents were reportedly destroyed during the attack.
Witnesses said the shooting occurred in Bambui, a town located near Bambili and the University of Bamenda campus.
The area has experienced several violent incidents in recent weeks. The latest killing comes only one week after another fatal shooting was reported in neighbouring Bambili.
There are also unconfirmed reports that a motorcycle rider may have been killed during the same attack. However, authorities have not yet verified this information.
No individual or group has claimed responsibility for the shooting, and government officials have not released an official statement. Security forces are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The North-West Region continues to face insecurity linked to the ongoing armed conflict involving separatist groups. Civilians, students, and other residents are often affected by the violence.
Bambui and Bambili are neighbouring communities near Bamenda, where persistent insecurity continues to disrupt daily life, education, and economic activities.
