Bamenda: Unidentified Man Found Dead in Swampy Area

The remains of an unidentified man were recovered on June 24, 2026, after local mechanics discovered the body in a swampy area below Azam Hotel in the Bamenda II Subdivision.

According to the population, mechanics working near the area found the body and immediately alerted soldiers stationed at Travellers Junction, less than 500 meters away. The soldiers responded, secured the scene, and contacted the appropriate authorities.

Workers from the Bamenda City Council's Hygiene and Sanitation Department later arrived at the site and transported the remains to the Bamenda Regional Hospital. The operation was carried out under the instructions of the Bamenda Judicial Police Department, which has opened an investigation into the case.

At the time the body was discovered, it was lying face down in the mud and could not be identified. Authorities have not yet established the identity of the deceased or determined the cause of death. It is also unclear whether the man was killed at the location or his body was dumped there after his death.

One resident who spoke to TEBECK TV described how the body was discovered. However, officials have not released further details as investigations continue.

This is not the first such incident in the area. Residents recalled that a woman was reportedly killed and dumped near the same location last year.

As of June 24, 2026, neither the Bamenda City Council nor security authorities had issued an official statement on the circumstances surrounding the man's death.
