Authorities in Bamenda I Subdivision have intensified efforts to combat reckless driving and other forms of indiscipline, following growing concerns over road safety and security within the locality.

The Assistant Divisional Officer, Nchofon Mingoh, on Thursday, June 4, led an enforcement operation targeting speeding motorists, reckless drivers, and road users operating without valid documentation. The operation resulted in the impoundment of five vehicles.

The crackdown comes amid increasing reports of dangerous driving practices involving both motorcycles and vehicles on major roads and in densely populated neighbourhoods across the subdivision. Residents have repeatedly expressed concern over the growing number of road accidents linked to excessive speeding and non-compliance with traffic regulations.

A recent fatal accident at the C-Bend area heightened public concern after it claimed the lives of two persons, including a motorcycle rider and a court registrar who was reportedly in Bamenda on official duty.

During the operation, authorities identified five individuals whose vehicles were impounded for alleged traffic-related offences. They include Njei Divine, Achoh Brice Leonard Diang, Mkong Nixson Ngum, Abajor Precious Fuhiw, and Tah Emmanuel, who reportedly failed to present a national identity card.

Administrative authorities disclosed that the individuals would be handed over to the competent judicial authorities for further investigation and possible legal action, in accordance with existing laws and regulations.

Beyond traffic violations, local authorities have also expressed concern over increasing cases of youth delinquency and other criminal activities reported in parts of the subdivision. Residents have cited incidents of theft, intimidation, harassment, and violent assaults, which they say are contributing to a growing sense of insecurity.

Officials maintain that measures are being taken to address the situation through sensitisation campaigns, administrative consultations, and strengthened law enforcement operations.

Authorities have also warned against acts of vigilantism, urging residents to report suspected offenders to the competent authorities rather than taking the law into their own hands.

The administration says it remains committed to restoring order, improving road safety, and ensuring that traffic regulations are respected throughout Bamenda I Subdivision.
