Councillors of the Bamenda II Council have approved the Administrative, Management, and Stores Accounts for the 2025 financial year.
The approval was granted during a regular session held at the council premises on Thursday, 24 April 2026.
During the session, it was revealed that the council had initially projected a budget of 2.1 billion francs. However, only 733 million francs was realized as revenue for the year. Of this amount, 662.2 million francs was spent, leaving a balance brought forward of 10.8 million francs. A total of 59 million Francs was written off the books of the council.
The Mayor of the municipality, Peter Chenwi, stated that the council exercised strict financial discipline throughout the year. He noted that most of the revenue came from the Public Investment Budget and projects financed by PROLOG.
Several development projects were carried out in 2025, including:
* Rehabilitation of the museum at Nsongwa Palace
* Rehabilitation of a block of two classrooms at GS Ntambag Group 1
* Rehabilitation of a section of road from Ntarikon to Alakuma
* Construction of a ring culvert at Alausatom
* Construction of a box culvert linking Ndzemako and Badzone quarters
* Construction of a retaining wall and green space at Ntambag I
* Construction of a community hall in Mankon
* Supply of furniture and equipment to a social facility in Ngomgham
* Provision of farming equipment to God’s Love Mixes Farming Common Initiative Group
* Provision of farming equipment to Anjong Young Farmers CIG
* Construction of boreholes in three communities in Akumlam and Bagmande
Mayor Chenwi further disclosed that land has been secured for the construction of a waste management plant, which will be funded by Canadian partners. He also announced that the municipality is expected to receive a firefighting truck in 2026.
In total, councillors adopted 15 deliberations. These include plans to maintain roads within the municipality, install solar street lighting, complete ongoing social housing projects, construct additional boreholes, and acquire service vehicles for council operations.
The councillors also approved a special allocation for minor projects aimed at addressing the immediate needs of the population.
On the issue of internal revenue generation, councillors raised concerns over the low income generated from sand mining activities in Mbatu and Chomba. They also called for the reopening of the Nitop Market as normalcy gradually returns. The council administration assured them that these concerns will be given due consideration.
Council staff, however, reported cases of harassment, particularly in areas where their duties overlap with those of the city council personnel. The council appealed to the Senior Divisional Officer (SDO) to intervene and ensure a peaceful working environment during revenue collection.
Responding to the concern, the SDO of Mezam, Simon Emile Mooh, assured that measures will be taken to prevent any conflict of interest and guarantee smooth collaboration.
He also urged councillors to remain committed to their responsibilities and continue driving development efforts, especially at a time when their mandates have been extended.
With security gradually improving, the Bamenda II Council is taking steps to relocate its operations back to its main base in Mbingfibieh.
