The building hosting the emergency center at the Bamenda Regional Hospital has been officially inaugurated by the Governor of the North West Region.
The building, whose construction commenced in 2023, has come as a lifesaver to the population of the North West Region and its environs.
Presenting on how well the building will serve the region, Saturday 11th October 2025, the Director of the Bamenda Regional Hospital, Dr Nsame Denis said; "there are increasing figures in medico-surgical casualties received here and there are just six beds in the casualty. At this rate, we can not take care of many emergency cases. Hence, survival hangs on the balance." Dr. Nsame said.
The new emergency center has between 25-30 beds and will be used as a place to stabilize patients who have very urgent cases. Patients will be expected to spend at most 72 hours in the center.
The bloc that has a ground floor and a first floor will host a Reception, consultation, pharmacy, Almoner, imaging unit, conservation unit, theatres, recovery unit, burn centre, security post and waiting area for carers on the ground floor.
Pediatric observation, resuscitation unit, obstetric emergency, laboratory, blood bank, conference hall, offices, nurses call room, doctor's call room, and students call room.
The center, which is a palpable fruit of the special status, is financed by the government of Cameroon through the North West Regional Assembly.

Speaking on behalf of the assembly, the President, Prof Fru Angwafo III said "what we do here is the same like what you will have in New York and Paris."
The Elites of the North West Region led by Philemon Yang, Prime Minister Emeritus, saluted the improvement in infrastructure and machinery at the disposal of the hospital staff under the president's vision to upgrade hospitals.
The dialysis center with the advent of universal health coverage. Up to 19 dialysis machines are at the center, receiving some 140 patients.
An oxygen filling station is now available at the hospital. This can supply oxygen to all the 21 health districts of the region.
There is also a mammography machine at the center. This screens all kinds of cancer, especially that of the cervix and the breast.
There is also a burn unit. This unit can take care of all severe burns.
Like the Elites, the Governor of the North West Region, Adolph Lele Lafrique, appreciated the hospital staff who, despite the prevailing crisis, have remained steadfast.
The hospital currently counts 613, of which 73 are medical Doctors with 34 of them specialists. The hospital also has 243 nurses and 97 technicians.
With a mission to offer quality care to patients and offer pedagogic support to schools, the 69 year old hospital has stood the taste of time as a hospital of reference.

The inauguration exercise also saw the distribution of two sets of gifts. One from the President of the Republic and the other from the regional Assembly. The gifts from the assembly will cater for some 68 vulnerable persons.
The Bamenda Regional Hospital Emergency Center has been constructed to the tune of 690 million Francs.
