South West: Paul Atanga Nji Slams Separatist Fighters, says Security Situation is under control

Minister Paul Atanga Nji speaking in Buea

After a pre-electoral tour of Cameroon’s East Region, where he assessed the security situation, ELECAM’s readiness, and the preparedness of local administrative authorities for the October 12 election, the Minister of Territorial Administration continued the same mission today in the South-West Region.

In his opening remarks at an evaluation meeting with various stakeholders, the Minister condemned the ongoing lockdowns enforced by separatist fighters. He described them as “ghosts,” insisting that people should not obey restrictions imposed by such forces.

"Those imposing ghost towns are themselves ghosts, an example of Anglophones marginalising Anglophones,” Minister Paul Atanga Nji declared in Buea.

Atanga Nji also criticised parents for what he called their role in the persistence of armed groups. He argued that if parents had firmly distanced themselves from children who took up arms against the state, such lockdowns would not continue.

While noting improvements in regional security, the minister urged those still hiding in the bush to leave and join the country’s Disarmament, Demobilisation, and Reintegration (DDR) centres.
