Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute in Tiko

The Prime Minister and Head of Government Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute has visited the Tiko Port in Fako Division, South West Region, on a high-profile working visit, Friday 26th September 2025.

The visit was a combination of governance, inspection of development projects and political messaging.

Welcomed with celebration, the PM came to assess five key projects under the Port Authority of Limbe, which is tied to the government’s decentralization and modernization agenda.

The five projects include:

✓ Rehabilitation of the three-kilometer access road to Tiko Port,

✓ Rehabilitation and extension of the Tiko wharf,

✓ Expansion of the Idenau quayside terminal,

✓ Installation of maritime signaling equipment in Bota, Idenau, and Tiko,

✓ Construction of a medical center in Bota and acquisition of specialized port equipment.

The access road project, already at 46.31% complete, served as visible proof of progress. It is executed by Exxon Synergy and SOSECO.

These developments align with the 2019 recommendations of the  Major National Dialogue, emphasizing regional development.

Beyond the technical updates, the visit carried a clear political message. In a speech blending humor and persuasion, Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute urged the people of Tiko and Fako to support President Paul Biya in the upcoming elections. He praised President Biya’s continued investments—especially in the CDC, which has received over 50 billion CFA francs for salary arrears and tied the port's revival to the President’s leadership. “If you want me to remain Prime Minister... will you vote for President Biya?” he asked, drawing enthusiastic applause.

The General Manager of Douala Port emphasized the strategic importance of the Tiko Port in Cameroon’s economic transformation, noting an 8 billion CFA francs budget to restore the port and create jobs, attract investment, and modernize operations.

Tiko’s Mayor, HRH Peter Ikome Mesoso III, welcomed the PM with humor and emotion. He called the visit a “political cover,” validating his promises to constituents after years of delays. He highlighted Tiko’s natural 12-meter maritime depth and called for the airport rehabilitation, reaffirming Tiko’s loyalty to Biya.

Ultimately, the visit was both a showcase of development and a strategic campaign move. By linking progress to political continuity, Dion Ngute positioned President Paul Biya as the guarantor of Tiko’s future, turning the port’s rehabilitation into a symbol of hope, loyalty, and transformation.
