Mayor Chenwi Peter of Bamenda II Council

The Mayor of Bamenda II Council, Chenwi Peter has recounted the impeccable achievements of President Paul Biya in Bamenda II subdivision and called on the population to support the re-election bid of the President of the Republic.

Speaking in an interaction with The Observer in Bamenda on Tuesday 23rd September 2025, Mayor Chenwi Peter said the Head of State signed a social contract with the people of Bamenda II and have so far delivered. He enumerated projects realized over the last five years despite the crisis and termed them satisfactory.

"Before we came to office, Bamenda II did not possess a single heavy-duty equipment. But now we can boast of a grader, a dump truck and a front end loader. We also started the social housing project that is almost complete. This will provide housing to low income owners within the Municipality." Mayor Chenwi Peter hinted.

Heavy duty equipment and some social projects

The Mayor also said the construction of the Mile 90 market to ease the distance of households to the urban center for purchases is now a reality as the market is already operational and serving that purpose. "in addition to the market, we will construct a modern slaughter house so that the population can consume beef of good quality." The Mayor added.

Other projects like the equipping of health centers, the construction of boreholes have served a lot of communities within the council area.

"When we took over, they was general poverty within this municipality. We have funded small and medium size businesses to reduce the unemployment rate. We have also carried out a lot of donations in the domain of food stuffs to bike riders, buyam sellams and a huge support to persons with disabilities." The Mayor said.

Mayor Chenwi Peter continued to say that despite the fact that councils within the crisis hit regions are not generating revenue, the state has not forgotten about them as they continue to receive their quota of the council additional taxes and public investment projects which has gone a long way to transform lives and communities in the Municipalities. He made mention of the local governance and resilient project (PROLOG). Bamenda II Council is executing 25 projects worth 625 million francs.

In the area of recovery, the Mayor said under the Presidential Plan for Reconstruction and Development, small and medium sized business benefitted from complete business models and inputs in the form of capital to run their businesses. Here those in the Agricultural sector like poultry farmers benefitted. They had inputs from starters to finishers plus the chicks.

To Mayor Chenwi Peter, the President of the Republic continued to catered for the population of the North West Region. Billions of Francs he said has been invested in the region over the last years even though the separatist fighters continued to disrupt the flow of government activities.

Chronicling Paul Atanga Nji, the Minister of Territorial Administration, the Mayor said that finally anglophones are the ones suffering from the ongoing crisis. They're the ones who are being kidnapped, killed and maimed. Mayor Chenwi Peter said it was time for the youths to wise up and avoid manipulation. To achieve a Cameroon centered around a harmonious living together, is to vote for President Paul Biya and do that massively.

"From Nsongwa to Chomba. From Mbatu to Mankon, President Biya is the only person who did not abandon us in this crisis. Everyone left us to our fate. They dumped us and disappeared. Today, after we have toiled to bring peace, they want to come back and reap from where they did not sow. The time to be wise is now. The time to grow up is now and the time to vote for President Paul Biya is now."

"It is only the CPDM that came here on ghost town days to help you out of your sufferings. That openly challenged the ghost towns and the lockdowns. It is only the CPDM that cares about you. It is the only party that fought tooth and nail that the only industry in Anglophone Cameroon, the education sector continues to thrive. I want to use this medium to call on the population of Bamenda to vote massively for the one who has been with them and by them. To the beggar of peace. Who called on our children to look at an alternative path to peace and life. The one who is a developer. Look at the giant projects being realized and inaugurated. Look at the Bamenda-Babadjou road. Look at the roads in Bamenda." Mayor Chenwi said.

The Bamenda II Mayor noted that the biggest headache this far has been the roads within his Municipality and with the coming of the Prime Minister last week, this headache will have a definite cure.

"The roads within the urban center of Bamenda II will receive a face-lift. Also they're other roads within Bamenda II under the C2D project that will totally transform our town. We must be vigilant." He said.

Partnership with the council of Brampton, Canada

The Mayor mentioned that the Municipality has worked hard to secure partnerships with councils in Canada and in the nearest future, projects related to renewable energy, youth and women empowerment will be financed. To him, this will totally transform the economy of Bamenda II and its environs, giving room to economic empowerment and transfer of knowledge.

Mayor Chenwi Peter also said the CPDM is the only compassion party that comes to the aid of the denizens when they're faced with any atrocity. Top of this was the fire incident on the Bamenda Main Market on the 22nd February 2025. He lauded the initiative of Minister Felix Mbayu to support the victims of the incident but also cited numerous occasions where the Minister has come to the rescue of the region's populace and supported personal initiatives.

To Mayor Chenwi, the achievements of the CPDM are overwhelming. It is timely and it is the only party that can guarantee the emergence of Cameroon. To this end, he called on all and sundry to massively vote for President Paul Biya at the October 12 Presidential Elections.
