The 2nd edition of the Meta Unity and Sports tournament has gone underway in Mbengwi.
Launched on Saturday 5th July 2025, the crowd puller promises to produce more spectacle than the first edition played last year as the players will receive mouthwatering consolidatory prizes
Launched under the Ndangoh Calvin's Foundation, the vision Bearer, Barrister Ndangoh Tah Calvin was pleased to see this vision become a reality for the second year running.
"Football is a unifying factor. I thought of how I could contribute my little efforts to the peace, development and prosperity of Mbengwi and this came to mind. I started this tournament last year and it was really successful so I decided to repeat it this year." Barrister Ndangoh said.
The senior Barrister at law said he hopes that the Meta people will use the tournament as a place of Union to foster peace, development and progress in all the villages that make up Meta despite the challenges of the time.
Barrister Ndangoh Calvin used the launch of his tournament to encourage other sons and daughters of Momo who have such an idea to go ahead.
"The more tournaments the youths have to play, the better for the subdivision. At least it will keep them busy and help them flee from deviant behaviour." Barrister Ndangoh emphasized.
The 2025 edition is special as new disciplines like football girls and handball for Boys have been added alongside cross country race.
The opening matches saw the Girls of Bafmeng defeat the girls of Mbengwi by 6 goals to zero meanwhile the Boys of Njembeng beat the Boys of Abi Falls 5-1.
Quizzed if his main intention is to use football for politics, Maitre Ndangoh said his intentions are for youth engagement and nothing more.
"Football doesn't know votes. Football knows only goals. When the time for politics will come, we will play politics. For now all I want is to bring my people together in peace and love. I'm doing this for the love of my people and the development of Meta."
The competition will run for this year on a budget of 5 million Francs CFA and will close on August 22, 2025.
