Youths of the North West Region have been given the touch light to go and shine. This significant event in the life of the North West Region comes at a time when young people have been radicalized to pick up arms against the state, causing destruction of property and schools
Dr Taniform Peter named as the Youth Ambassador, challenged them not to follow the footsteps of their peers but to be nation builders, focused and determined to do things differently.
Dr Taniform Peter was speaking as youths of the North West Region converge on the Esplanade of the Senior Divisional Officer's office for a youth mega rally, Thursday 24th July 2025. Held under the theme;" Understanding the times: The beginning of a new dawn and a new narrative." Dr Taniform Peter said some 2000 schools are still non-functional in the region and some 500,000 children are out of school. This vexing situation is compounded by an increase in teenage pregnancies by 45% and youth employment at 50%.
Looking at these challenges, Dr Taniform Peter proposed three initiatives to empower the youth. First was a vetted youth innovation platform. Here, Dr Taniform said a digital ecosystem for young people to showcase their talents and connect with mentors and funders is being set up. This platform aims to bridge the gap between youth potential and opportunities, providing a secure and trusted environment for collaboration and development.
The second solution is the Youth Skills Registry and Service platform. Dr Taniform proposes a talent market place where youths will be accredited and profiled with Vocational and professional competencies. This platform will foster a culture that promotes self-reliance, professionalism and economic empowerment especially for those who are not absorbed into the formal job market.
The third is the National Legends, Heroes and Role Models Campaign. This is an educational initiative to honor and revive the legacies of the region's iconic figures. This campaign will be rolled out across primary, second and university levels, encouraging students to research, debate and emulate the life stories of Cameroon's national and regional trailblazers.
The first edition of the Youth Mega rally saw young persons from the 7 Divisions of the North West pledging to uphold moral values and virtues that will portray the region's rich educational and cultural identity to the rest of the nation and the world at large.
